What do you mean Speculative Fiction Romance?
and why aren’t you just using Science Fiction or Futuristic?
Because Speculative Fiction takes in a whole lot more. It encompasses Paranormal, Time Travel, Steampunk… on and on. And all of these genres are wrapped in a beautiful shell called Speculative Fiction. One day I hope that the RWA recognizes it as a category and we can stop arguing over what ScifiRom is as opposed to Paranormal Rom as opposed to… It all comes under the umbrella of Speculative Fiction + Romance aka SFR (I’m retaking the acronym!).
Space Opera and Bodice Ripping Ninjas with transmogrifying lizard men is speculative fiction. Shifters in spaaaace – speculative. Anyway, there aren’t any shifters in Freedom Bound. Here’s where I am in this rewrite. We are still in
FREEDOM BOUND: Episode 2 –Unhinged
When last we left Corrie Scott, late of Frobisher Corp and now a … well, she doesn’t rightly know. In the moments leading up to this scene, Corrie’s just been delivered some interesting news and turned to the only attorney she knows… Corrie is talking via interplanetary messaging to her best friend and co-pilot, Jody Benson, also not dead. (see last week’s snippet for why that means something).
“Okay, so you’ve been contacted by an attorney’s office in the CCC.” Jody used the acronym for their new corporate suzerain, the Cordoba Constellar Conglomerate.
“Hmmm,” Corrie mumbled, still wincing and holding her head.
“Take a headache stim, drink a lot of water, you party animal.”
“Shut it, Jody.”
“Right, get over there and don’t sign anything. But you have been sheltered behind the Frobisher wall. Someone could have been trying to get in touch with you. A relative? Didn’t you say you were from Tiva Oa and never knew it?
“Hm…” Corrie said.
